FirstHand - in conversation with experts

COVID-19

Online interview with  the President, Indian Academy of Sciences on Covid-19 pandemic.

We were in conversation with Prof. Partha Pratim Majumder, FirstHand on impacts of the recent pandemics.

Prof. Majumder is the President, Indian Academy of Sciences.

He is a Professor Emeritus of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and the Founder Director and Distinguished Professor of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics.

He is considered the guru of Genomic Research in India and his very recent paper with his colleague Dr. Nidhan Biswas has shown how the Corona Virus is evolving to produce so far 11 strains of it.

He is a statistician by training and a biologist and genomic researcher by passion. In this discussion we covered some core areas of interest for PPM, i.e. Mathematical Modeling of Pandemics, the Genomic characteristics of the SARS-CoV-2 and survival strategies for research institutes Post Covid-19 Era.

He told us How the Mathematical Models of Pandemics can help strategizing the battle with SARS-CoV-2. Why in another 100 years man cannot make a Virus like this in lab, Why the Science Centres should not deviate from their established agenda even in Post Covid-19 Era.
