An Innovation Hub is a place which provides facilities to nurture new ideas and help develop inquisitive perspective in youths of today. The Innovation hubs created by National Council of Science Museums engage youth in innovative and creative activities. These hubs serve as springboards for new ideas and innovation and thus helping the society and economy to face future challenges and meet rising aspirations of the growing population. Specifically, embedding such creative pedagogies in science education through Innovation ‘Hubs’ would have potential to retain talent in modern science.
The Innovation Hub in the Regional Science Centre and Planetarium, Calicut was established with the aid from the Innovation Council. However, the project was laucnhed with a period of three years. Now with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the project support has been discontinued by hte Government of India. But, the Innovation Hub of the Centre is a very active and popular facility that benefits more than 1000 students every year.
Activities of the Innovation Hub include briefing the students and the youth about the processes of innovation, facilitate experimental learning in technology development, creating products out of low-cost and scrap materials, finding innovative solutions of social problems, Grassroot level indigenous innovation promotion, organising training programmes on new technologies, Skill development among economically disadvantaged and SC/ST/OBC community, development of quality online learning content.
At this stage when a number of young minds are training here and pursuing developments of various gadgets and products, we think closing the Innovation Hub will be a retrograde step for the local youth. We pray your active support to run this Innovation Hub program. The yearly cost involves arranging modern hardware and licensed software resources, procurement of high-end precision machines like CNC Lathe, Laser cutting machine, Rendering Workstations etc., organising creativity enhancement programs for student community, development of indigenous technology etc.
We are looking for proposals to support activities of the Innovation Hub be it for infrastructure development or supporting regular activities. We request the corporate houses to consider bequething CSR fund for this initiative to help make India self-reliant. Kindly meet our Senior Technical Officer with support proposals.
Thank you for your consideration for support of The Regional Science Centre and Planetarium Innovation Hub. We are facing an unprecedented emergency—and the motivated students, entrepreneurs, and makers who come to the Innovation Hub regularly are affected by the impact of COVID-19. This is why we need the support of our Hub community now more than ever. As the economy shifts in response to the global pandemic, we have augmented our services to provide online STEAM education for adults and youth—and we are answering the call to help solve the social problems. We ask for your support today to expand upon the work we are doing and allow us to quickly grow capacity so that we may increase the assistance we are able to provide. Every Rupee makes a difference in these difficult times and helps keep our Hub community educated and empowered. Thank you.
